FSA Issues advice over dog chews from China
Unsafe dog chews possibly in UK.
The food standards agency (FSA) has issued precautionary advice regarding dog chews that originate in China.
The advice is due to concerns raised in the European union regarding to possible behavioural changes linked to the treats.
The brands that are in question are Barkoo and Chrisco, however there could be more.
The treats are being linked to what is known as "werewolf syndrome", symptoms include panic attacks, aggression, spasms, epileptic fits and in some cases death.
Even though there are not yet any recorded cases in the UK and there is no confirmed distribution of these chews, the fear is that some people may have purchased them online from international sellers.
The advice is that if you have fed any treats from the named brands and your dog is unwell, seek veterinary advice immediately and inform your vet that the dog has been fed these treats and give them detailed information about what your dog may have eaten recently. Retain any uneaten treats and give them to the Vet to be tested. If you have any of the treats dispose of them immediately and do not feed any more to your dog.
There is no evidence to suggest the treats pose any risk to human health.
